Graphical calculation views can be very complex – when a view consist of many nodes (joins, unions, projections), it is difficult to find what is the source (table, another view) of the field is. When you need to find the original value, which is common during troubleshooting, it is not convenient to click from node to node to find the source table or the source view. In such cases Show Lineage button is helpful. In general, SAP HANA’s objects can be built using two different approaches: SQL language (SQL views, table functions, procedures); Graphical Blocks (graphical calculation views). Usage of graphical calculation views has some advantages (comparing to SQL objects): they are easier to maintain, the flow is more obvious and easy to understand, additionally it’s more convenient to change them and it’s very simple to show data in the intermediate steps (data preview option).
